KVK, Reasi provides Innovative Agri-Solutions to Farmers

Reasi, Sept 17: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) is providing the innovative agri-solutions to farmers under the dynamic stewardship of Vice Chancellor, Prof. BN Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof. SK Gupta of SKUAST-J. According to Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr. Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi KVK scientists are providing the innovative agri-solutions to the farmers of different areas so that their farm income and employment can be enhanced.
He said that KVK is guiding the farmers on azolla cultivation as an organic feed for the animals, lemon grass farming and its value addition, value addition in floriculture, hydroponics technology, nano kitchen gardening, strawberry cultivation with its value addition, commercial beekeeping, turmeric and ginger cultivation, Kadaknath farming, millets production and processing, value addition in mushroom, by promoting local handicrafts made by local grasses etc. Dr. Banarsi said that by the value addition in different crops such as fruits, vegetables and spices farmers can fetch more returns and uplift the economic status.
He added that KVK has established Distt. Agro Metrological Unit (DAMU) at its campus and KVK is providing the agro-metrological advisories timely to the farmers by which the farmers can get more returns by timely managing their crops and minimizing the wastage of agro-inputs.
He said that KVK is encouraging the farmers for post-harvest technologies in agriculture by which new micro-entrepreneurships can be developed in the rural areas.
He expressed that KVK is guiding the farmers on the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants, turmeric, ginger, marigold etc. in the monkeys menace areas by which farmers can fetch more farm returns.
Packaging, branding and efficient marketing of agro-products have been guided by the KVK. Dr. Banarsi said that value addition in floriculture can open new avenues in Reasi distt. as the district has immense potential in flowers production.
He added that organic floral products have demand in the market and farmers can enhance their income by the value addition in floriculture.
He narated that KVK is encouraging the farmers to effectively use the Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to get effective and timely agricultural information.
He further said that KVK scientists are guiding the farmers on making the bio-products at rural level.
He narrated that KVK is stressing on the organic and natural farming by which the safe food can be produced and nutritional and health status of people can also be improved. KVK is also encouraging the women farmers on nutri-gardens to mitigate the nutritional problem of the families.
