GDC Kotranka marks International Ozone Day with awareness and celebrations

JAMMU, Sept 19: GDC Kotranka celebrated International Ozone Day on September 16, 2023, with a resolute commitment to preserving the ozone layer, guided by the esteemed Principal, Dr. Rajinder Singh. This year's theme, "Fixing the Ozone layer and reducing climate changes," underscored the importance of collective action to address environmental challenges.
The program commenced with a warm welcome note from Prof. Bishan Sharma, Head of the Department of Dogri, setting the tone for the day's activities.
Dr. Rifat Azam, Head of the Department of Environmental Science (EVS), delivered a comprehensive lecture on the significance of the ozone layer's preservation. She enlightened the audience about the critical role the ozone layer plays in safeguarding not only human beings but also animals and the environment as a whole.
The event witnessed active participation from numerous students who shared their perspectives on the importance of International Ozone Day. Cultural activities added color and vibrancy to the celebration.
Principal Dr. Rajinder Singh, in his address, emphasized the need for responsible usage of appliances such as refrigerators and air conditioners. He highlighted that reducing the emission of harmful substances like CFCs could play a vital role in protecting the ozone layer from further depletion.
To encourage and recognize the talent and contributions of the participants, prizes were awarded to those who presented papers or participated in cultural activities. The program received an enthusiastic response from a large number of students, and refreshments were distributed to all attendees.
Dr. Tahir Amin Khan, Head of the Department of English, extended a heartfelt vote of thanks at the conclusion of the program, expressing gratitude to all those who contributed to making the celebration of International Ozone Day a meaningful and educational experience.
