Advocate Suresh calls for inclusion of OBCs, SCs, STs in Women Reservation Bill
9/20/2023 10:12:37 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 20: Advocate Suresh Kumar Dogra, a Senior Congress Leader and Member of the All India Congress Committee, voiced his opinions on the Women's Reservation Bill during a program focused on women's issues. He emphasized that while he is ready to support the Bill, it must be implemented in the right way, with provisions for Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), and Scheduled Tribes (STs).
The discussion on the 128th Constitutional Amendment Bill, 2023, which seeks to introduce 33% reservation for women in the lower House and all state Legislative Assemblies, was initiated by Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal. He hailed the Bill as a crucial step in women's empowerment that sets an example for the world.
However, Advocate Suresh Dogra openly criticized the Bill, describing it as a "huge betrayal" for women due to its vague implementation date. He also expressed concern over the government's failure to provide reservations for backward classes. He alleged that the Bill was part of a conspiracy to oppress women from SC, ST, and OBC backgrounds.
Advocate Suresh Dogra pointed out that the Bill goes against the principles laid out by the framers of the Indian Constitution, including Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He stressed that the essence of reservation is to uplift and advance the backward sections of society, not to further elevate the already privileged.
In a warning to the government, Advocate Suresh Dogra urged them not to jeopardize the future of underprivileged classes. He demanded that these communities be given opportunities to participate in Parliament and occupy significant roles within the country. His criticism highlighted the need for a comprehensive and inclusive approach to reservation policies.
