Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 20: In a significant initiative aimed at boosting agricultural incomes and promoting the cultivation of millets, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu and the Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DICCI), organized a high-level meeting on September 18, 2023. The meeting took place at the permanent campus of IIM Jammu in Jagti and was led by Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director of IIM Jammu.
The primary objective of this gathering was to plan a regional conference dedicated to the promotion of millets and Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs) in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Scheduled for September 29, 2023, at Hotel Radisson Blu in Jammu, the conference aims to provide a platform for fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of millet cultivation. The event is expected to bring together top bureaucrats, heads of educational institutions, government leaders, researchers, farmers, entrepreneurs, and industry associations to discuss strategies, innovations, and best practices for promoting millets and the growth of FPOs.
The conference will feature distinguished personalities from various sectors, including administration, industry, and farmer’s collectives. Shri Milind P. Kamble, Founder of DICCI and Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIM Jammu, is set to grace the occasion.
The meeting saw the participation of key stakeholders, including Shri Gaurav Gupta from the Theta Foundation for Development, along with eminent dignitaries from industry, industry bodies, and experts. During the meeting, participants discussed and finalized plans for the upcoming conference, which is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing the cause of millet cultivation and FPOs in the region.
