Recurring attacks, looming insecurity belies govts normalcy claims: Omar

Jammu, Sept 20: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said the recent back to back encounters in Kokernag and in Rajouri contradict government’s claim on normalcy.
This he said in his address to the party functionaries at the Party Headquarters Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu. On the occasion Omar felicitated recently appointed Additional General Secretary Ajay Kumar Sadhotra and Central Secretary Surinder Choudhary on assuming new roles in the party.

Calling out LG Manoj Sinha’s aversion for democracy and democratic forces, Omar said that LG Sinha was inventing surveys to justify his unwillingness to conduct assembly elections in the union territory and remain its uncrowned ruler.
“J&K was going through a strange time where one doesn’t know who to trust and what to believe. Government says one thing in the Supreme Court and something else outside it.
Different statements, that were difficult to understand, were made in the past few days.
On 5th August 2019, Article 370 was abrogated and it was said that J&K was not completely integrated into the country.
That has been done after abrogating the Article. In Supreme Court, Govt’s lawyer said that the abrogation was necessary as J&K’s people considered themselves separate from rest of the country and it was done to remove this thinking...
After a few days, we heard the LG say that he is in J&K till he fully integrates J&K with the country. Now tell me who is lying” he said.
Taking a lid off the deteriorating security situation across J&K, he said that areas which were cleared of militancy are witnessing encounters and killings. “Tourist numbers are being inflated to show normalcy. However when we scratch a bit, the situation on ground is contrary to what is being claimed.
Today the reality is that areas which were cleared of militancy are witnessing its return.
They talk about Pandits. Today they are on roads demanding their relocation from Kashmir.
We brought them to Kashmir, gave employment and accommodation to them.
However today they are not feeling secure.
The other day a CRPF vehicle was attacked in the heart of Srinagar.
There is widespread anger in people. Common people aren’t happy. LG might be referring to those who have been provided escorts and security.
Our people in Jammu, and Kashmir want an early end to the ongoing undemocratic rule,” he said.
