Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 21: In honor of the revered Mahatma Gandhi and his principles of truth and non-violence, the Department of Commerce at Government College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar, organized a thought-provoking Book Reading Activity as part of the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations. This event, held under the patronage of Dr. Meeru Abrol, Principal of the college, aimed to engage students in a meaningful exploration of Gandhian philosophy through the literary works of the great leader. The Book Reading Activity was a significant component of a series of events arranged to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti, and it saw enthusiastic participation from students.
During the activity, students delved into two seminal works: "My Experiments with Truth" and "All Men Are Brothers."
"My Experiments with Truth" chronicles Gandhi's life experiences, emphasizing his experiments with principles such as truth, non-violence, spiritualism, celibacy, self-realization, and vegetarianism. Gandhi encouraged readers to conduct similar experiments in their own lives to seek truth.
In "All Men Are Brothers," Gandhi stressed that non-violence is not solely for saints and sages but is a universal law applicable to all. He contrasted non-violence with the brute force of violence, highlighting its significance for humanity.
Dr. Meeru Abrol, Principal of the college, emphasized the importance of reading these influential books. She urged students to connect with society by adopting Gandhian philosophy, ideas, and emotions, viewing it as a platform for personal growth and societal engagement.
Prof. Gagan Jyoti, Head of the Department of Commerce, underscored the value of Gandhi's principles of truth and non-violence. She urged students to study the works of renowned writers, asserting that a deep understanding of these ideals can only be achieved through reading, comprehension, and analysis.
Prof. Gagan Jyoti played a pivotal role in organizing the entire program, ensuring that students had a platform to engage with and reflect on Gandhian literature.
The Book Reading Activity at Government College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar, exemplified the college's commitment to instilling Gandhian ideals and values in its students. By immersing themselves in these timeless literary works, students gained insight into the profound wisdom and practical applicability of Gandhi's thinking.
