Doda police takes strong action against notorious drug peddlers
9/22/2023 10:28:42 PM
Early Times Report
DODA, Sept 22: Doda Police has taken significant steps to combat drug-related issues in the region by booking two notorious drug peddlers, Sajad Ahmed Butt and Muzamil Rafiq, under the Public Safety Act (PSA) with a focus on the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS). This action was taken due to their active involvement in illicit drug trafficking, posing a serious threat to society.
The Divisional Commissioner of Jammu issued orders to lodge both individuals in District Jail Bhaderwah under the PSA. These offenders have a track record of multiple FIRs registered against them in Police Station Bhaderwah and Doda, highlighting their detrimental activities.
Sajad Ahmed Butt has had cases registered against him, including FIR No. 159/2021 and FIR No. 153/2023 under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act at Police Station Doda. Similarly, Muzamil Rafiq faced charges in cases such as FIR No. 166/2019 and FIR No. 60/2023 under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act at Police Station Bhaderwah. Their repeated involvement in drug-related offenses made them a serious threat to local youth.
The decision to detain them under the PSA is aimed at deterring criminals and drug smugglers and safeguarding the lives of innocent local youth. This year alone, Doda Police has filed 20 FIRs against 26 offenders involved in drug-related activities and has detained three notorious drug peddlers under PSA (PITNDPS), including one previously detained. Additionally, several individuals have been placed under preventive custody due to their involvement in drug selling and addiction.
Doda Police has called upon the general public to cooperate in their efforts to combat drug-related issues. They have also warned drug smugglers to cease their illicit activities, emphasizing that stringent legal actions, including PSA detention and property attachment for habitual offenders, will be taken against them as warranted by the law.
