Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 22: Gaurav Gupta, former General Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu, held a crucial meeting with Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. During this meeting, Gupta submitted a memorandum of demands and discussed pressing issues affecting the region.
Gupta commenced the meeting by acknowledging the significant progress achieved in Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha. The region has seen substantial development in various sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, and education, with transformative projects aimed at enhancing connectivity and economic growth.
However, Gupta highlighted several pressing issues, including "Gair Mumkin Khad" land disputes. He stressed the importance of swift action to protect the rights of affected individuals and communities while addressing land status inaccuracies.
Another crucial matter discussed was the timely disbursement of turnover incentives for existing industries in the region. Gupta emphasized that the delay in these incentives, due to limited funds, was causing liquidity stress for existing businesses and discouraging potential investors from considering Jammu and Kashmir.
He also emphasized the need to expedite ongoing tourism projects in Jammu, particularly the Artificial Lake/Taw Barrage project. Gupta commended the government's efforts to promote tourism in Kashmir and suggested similar efforts be made in Jammu. He proposed creating a tourism circuit by connecting all potential tourist destinations in the region to attract and retain tourists.
Additionally, Gupta expressed concern about the proposed hike in power tariffs for industrial units in the region. He urged the Chief Secretary to review this move, emphasizing the importance of supporting the growth and competitiveness of the industrial sector, which is currently facing challenges.
The Chief Secretary attentively listened to the issues raised by the former General Secretary of the Chamber and assured that necessary steps would be taken to address them. This meeting signifies a commitment to resolving pressing concerns and fostering the continued development and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir.
