KVK, Reasi promotes bamboo crafting

REASI, Sept 24: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) is promoting and guiding the farmers on "Bamboo Crafting" under the dynamic stewardship of Vice Chancellor, Prof.BN Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.SK Gupta of SKUAST-J. Dr. Banrasi Lal, Sr. Scientist & Head KVK, Reasi said that Reasi district has huge potential in Bamboo cultivation and farmers can start entrepreneurship in bamboo crafting to increase their income and employment. He stressed on cluster based approach for the adoption of rural crafting for the rural development. He narrated that KVK is encouraging and guiding the farmers on bamboo crafting so that the farmers income can be enhanced. He added that value addition in bamboo crafting can open some new avenues of the income and employment among the rural women of the area. He also stressed on biodiversity conservation and environmental protection through bamboo cultivation. He stressed on Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Farmers Producer Organisations (FPOs) for rural development. The farmers are showing keen interest towards the bamboo crafting. Sohan Singh from Kanjali village of Reasi distt. said that after attending the training he has learnt the techniques of bamboo processing and it has given him an alternate source of income. People from Kanjali and Chapanoo village of Reasi distt. have started to make different types of bamboo products such as pen stand, bamboo jewellery, bamboo toys, bamboo trays, bamboo bottles etc.
