GDC Kathua celebrates 54th NSS Foundation Day

KATHUA, Sept 24: The National Service Scheme (NSS) units at Govt. Degree College Kathua came together in jubilant spirits to celebrate the 54th NSS Foundation Day in the College Auditorium, under the esteemed patronage of Principal Prof. Seema Mir. The event was marked by a series of enlightening and entertaining activities.
The celebration commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the traditional lamp, graced by the presence of Chief Guest Prof. Raj Kiran Sharma, Head of the Department of Physics. Prof. Sharma was accompanied by the college's senior-most faculty members, including Prof. Rakesh Jasrotia, Head of the Department of Chemistry, and Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Staff Secretary of GDC Kathua. The lighting of the lamp was followed by Saraswati Vandana and the NSS Song.
NSS Programme Officer Prof. Manmohan Singh delivered a warm welcome address, offering insight into the National Service Scheme in India and its noble purpose. He also provided a comprehensive overview of the activities undertaken during the session 2022-23.
Senior-most volunteer Meenakshi Bakshi presented a detailed report on the activities conducted during the same session, showcasing the dedication and commitment of NSS volunteers.
The cultural segment of the celebration was a colorful mosaic of diverse cultures, featuring fusion dances representing Himachali, Kashmiri, Dogri, and Marathi traditions, as well as Gidda and Punjabi Bhangra performances. Solo performances by talented NSS volunteers Natasha, Meenakshi Bakshi, Komal Sharma, and Yashvee Gotra added an extra layer of charm to the festivities.
The program took a serious turn when a thought-provoking skit on the social issue of acid attacks was presented by Jharna and her team members. Their performance aimed to raise awareness among the volunteers about this grave issue that plagues our society.
The evening culminated on a high note with an energetic Bhangra performance by the spirited NSS volunteers, leaving the audience thoroughly entertained.
Miss Alieshea and Vishal Gupta were recognized and honored with the Best Volunteer Award for their outstanding contributions during the 2022-23 session, in both the Male and Female categories.
Chief Guest Prof. Raj Kiran Sharma, who had been an NSS Program Officer during her college days, shared her inspiring journey from being an NSS Program Officer to her current role as the Head of the Physics Department at the college.
Prof. Rakesh Jasrotia, Head of the Chemistry Department, also addressed the volunteers, extending warm greetings on the occasion of NSS Foundation Day.
Several NSS volunteers, including Imran Ali, Monika Devi, Abhi Kumar, Mohit Verma, Ritika Jasrotia, Bavita Devi, and Abhishek Singh Sumbaria, were honored by the NSS units of the college for their unwavering dedication and their achievements in representing the college at the national level.
The NSS Foundation Day celebration was conducted under the guidance and patronage of Principal Prof. Seema Mir and under the supervision of NSS Programme Officers Prof. Manmohan Singh, Prof. Neha Bandral, and Dr. Suresh Sharma. The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by NSS Programme Officer Neha Bandral.
The event was a testament to the commitment and enthusiasm of the NSS volunteers at Govt. Degree College Kathua and their dedication to serving society and bringing honor to their institution.
