Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 25: Secularism, which has been the hallmark of Jammu and Kashmir and its people, is under threat from certain divisive forces who are hell-bent on destroying it for their own vested interests.
This was stated by Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President J&K National Conference, Jammu, in a press statement issued here today.
The senior NC leader asserted that Jammu and Kashmir has always been an epitome of secularism but today certain divisive forces are hell bent to destroy the same for their vested interests. He said that it is quite unfortunate that some political parties are working to create a narrative that will only divide the people.
Without directly naming the party, he said that a political party on the forefront in this regard is leaving no stone unturned in dividing the people in J&K to fulfill its political agenda of establishing its government in Jammu and Kashmir. He added that every attempt is being made to divide the communities who are living together since decades but the National Conference cadre right from the grass roots level to the top will not allow such elements to succeed in their divisive endeavours.
Rattan Lal Gupta, while castigating the Govt at the Centre as well as the Union Territory Administration for bringing only miseries for the common people, said that the economy of Jammu and Kashmir has made a nose dive and is continuously going down due to the hollow policies of BJP Government and its proxy rule in this Union Territory. Not only this, the unemployment rate has gone rocketing high during the BJP regime. He said that as per the figures of Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), the unemployment rate which was nearly 4.1 per cent in 2013-14 but today the same has reached 23.1 in J&K which seems to be a cause of serious concern that craves for immediate solution, he said.
The senior NC leader said that even the per capita income has fallen considerably in Jammu and Kashmir. Asserting that hollow slogans of the Govt will not correct the unemployment rate in J&K, he said that youth can easily see that they have only a bleak future in front of them.
Asserting that there is a need to remain united at this crucial juncture, he said that only then we will easily succeed in the fight against such divisive and disruptive forces. He said that such elements are working 24X7 to create a wedge between the communities but we will leave no stone unturned in defeating these divisive forces. He appealed to the party cadre and the people to stand united in order to defeat these divisive forces and uphold the secular credentials of this region at all costs.
Rattan Lal Gupta appealed to the people to support National Conference candidates in the impending ULB and Panchayat polls in J&K to get rid of all the miseries thrust upon them by the government at the Centre.
