District Jammu triumphs in U/19 boys football trophy, district Poonch wins U/17 title

JAMMU, Sept 27: The Inter-District Divisional Level Football Tournament for boys under the age groups of U/17 and U/19 concluded with thrilling matches and a display of exceptional skills. The tournament, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), District Jammu, showcased the passion and talent of young footballers.
In the U/17 boys final, District Poonch and District Kathua battled it out in a closely contested match that was ultimately decided by penalty strokes. Players from both teams demonstrated their nerves of steel as they took penalty shots. From the District Poonch side, Gurvinder Singh, Owais Kirmani, Sofian Ahmed, Nimul Haq, and Damenpreet Singh each scored a goal, while District Kathua's Abhinar Sharma, Arush Sargra, Vanesh Gupta, and Sarveshwar Singh matched their opponents with one goal each. In the end, District Poonch secured victory with a 5-4 scoreline in penalty strokes.
In the U/19 boys football final, District Jammu outplayed District Samba with a 1-0 victory. Aditya Mahajan scored the decisive goal in the second half of the game, during the final minutes.
The conclusion ceremony witnessed the distribution of trophies to the deserving winners and runner-up teams by the District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Jammu, Sukh Dev Raj Sharma. He congratulated the winners and encouraged them to continue their dedicated practice for upcoming UT level competitions. He also advised the runner-up teams to focus on skill development to achieve success in the next year.
DYSSO Jammu emphasized that winning and losing are inherent aspects of sports and that participation and perseverance are valuable lessons in themselves.
The event saw the presence of important figures, including Zonal Physical Education Officers (ZPEOs), technical officials, and other staff members who played essential roles in ensuring the smooth conduct of the tournament.
The tournament received patronage from Director Youth Services and Sports JK UT, Subash Chander Chibber (JKAS), under the guidance of Joint Director Youth Services and Sports Jammu, Suram Chand Sharma (JKAS), and overall supervision by DYSSO Jammu, Sukhdev Raj Sharma.
The tournament showcased the determination and sportsmanship of the young athletes and promoted the spirit of football in the region.
