Govt College for Women Bhagwati Nagar Concludes Gandhi Jayanti commemorative activities with valedictory function

Jammu, Sept 30: Government College for Women Bhagwati Nagar brought its month-long series of activities organized to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti to a successful conclusion with a valedictory function held on September 30th, 2023. The event was organized under the patronage of Dr. Meeru Abrol, Principal of the college.
Here’s a recap of the key activities conducted during this commemoration:
1. Group Discussion on “Truth and Non-violence” (September 25, 2023): Students engaged enthusiastically in a group discussion focused on the theme “Gandhi ji’s Contribution to Indian Education.” The discussion highlighted Mahatma Gandhi’s vision for “Basic Education,” emphasizing education in the mother tongue and activity-centered learning to make children skilled and independent. Gandhi’s ideals of constructing small, self-reliant communities were also discussed during the event, which saw the participation of about 25 students.
2. Awareness Session with Laborers (September 27, 2023): The Department of Commerce organized an awareness tete-a-tete with laborers as part of the “Swachta Hi Sewa 2023” campaign, centered on the theme of a “Garbage Free India.” Students engaged with laborers to create awareness about the importance of hygiene and cleanliness within the community and residences. The discussion covered proper garbage disposal and personal hygiene practices. Approximately 46 students actively participated in this campaign.
3. Cleanliness Drive in Adopted Village (September 29, 2023): The NSS Unit of the college conducted a cleanliness drive in the adopted village of Gole Gujral, as part of the “Swachta Hi Sewa” campaign. Around 20 volunteers joined the campaign and educated the local residents about sanitation, cleanliness, and personal hygiene. They also advocated for the avoidance of single-use plastic and polythene to maintain a clean environment.
4. Valedictory Function (September 30, 2023): The valedictory function commenced with the lighting of the lamp and featured an exhibition showcasing artifacts and handicraft items created by students based on the theme of “Earning while Learning.” During the exhibition, students displayed old records, pictures, and documents related to Mahatma Gandhi’s life, which garnered high appreciation. The program also included recitations of patriotic poems, renditions of Bapu’s favorite bhajans, and a documentary screening on Sabarmati Ashram, highlighting the significance of Gandhi Ji’s life journey.
The month-long commemorative activities not only celebrated the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi but also emphasized the importance of cleanliness, hygiene, and community awareness. The valedictory function served as a fitting tribute to the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, inspiring students to carry forward his ideals of truth, non-violence, and community service.
