GDC Kathua concludes Grand Gandhi Jayanti celebrations with valedictory function

Kathua, Sept 30: Government Degree College, Kathua, marked the culmination of its two-week long Gandhi Jayanti celebrations with a magnificent valedictory function held on September 30, 2023, at 12:00 noon in the Smart Classroom. The event was a vibrant tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring legacy and his principles of peace, truth, and non-violence.
The valedictory function commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the traditional lamp, followed by the enchanting Saraswati Vandana performance. Floral bouquets were presented to the chief guest, the esteemed Principal Prof. Seema Mir, and the guest of honor, Prof. (Retd) Saroop Chander, in a gesture of appreciation and respect.
In her warm welcome address, the convener of the organizing committee, Prof. Shivani Kotwal, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Principal Prof. Seema Mir and Prof. (Retd) Saroop Chander for gracing the occasion with their presence. She also praised the dedicated efforts of Principal Prof. Seema Mir in enhancing the college’s welfare and the significant contributions made by both dignitaries in the realm of academics.
Principal Prof. Seema Mir commended the students for their active and enthusiastic participation throughout the two-week celebrations. She invoked Gandhi’s teachings and emphasized the importance of embracing values such as peace, truth, and non-violence as integral aspects of life. Prof. Seema Mir urged the students to follow the path illuminated by the Father of the Nation.
Prof. (Retd) Saroop Chander, the guest of honor, delivered an insightful address that centered on Gandhian philosophy and its contemporary relevance in resolving modern conflicts. He also expounded on the principles of liberty, equality, fraternity, and justice.
The concluding day of the celebrations featured captivating cultural performances and an exhibition by the college’s students. Following the Gandhian principle of ‘Earning while Learning,’ the students showcased and sold a variety of self-made items that highlighted their artistic and crafting skills. Additionally, the students engaged in a thought-provoking Nukkad Natak (street play) on the theme of ‘Bhrashtachar’ (corruption) at Parshuram Chowk, Kathua. The valedictory function witnessed a substantial gathering of students and faculty members. The Literary/Debate/Symposium Committee, comprising esteemed faculty members, actively participated in organizing the event, ensuring its success.
Dr. Amita Dua delivered a formal vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all attendees and participants. Dr. Archana Bhat Sharma skillfully anchored the event, adding to its vibrancy and significance.
The valedictory function marked the end of a memorable and enlightening two-week celebration of Gandhi Jayanti at Government Degree College, Kathua, reinforcing the enduring importance of Mahatma Gandhi’s principles in our contemporary world.
