Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 1: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and in alignment with the nationwide "Swachhata Hi Seva" campaign, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Government Degree College Kunjwani/Sainik Colony in Jammu organized a noteworthy cleanliness drive at the revered Peer Baba Kanju Sahib Dargah in Kunjwani, Jammu and Kashmir. The event witnessed active participation from NSS volunteers, students, and the local community.
Dr. Ravender Kumar Tickoo, the principal of Government Degree College Kunjwani, inaugurated the event with an address emphasizing the paramount importance of cleanliness and the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign in realizing Mahatma Gandhi's vision of a clean and healthy India. He encouraged all participants to enthusiastically partake in the cleanup effort, underscoring the influential role of youth in fostering positive societal change.
With over 50 NSS volunteers, along with the support of local residents, the cleanup brigade spread across the Peer Baba Kanju Sahib Dargah complex, equipped with brooms, dustpans, and cleaning materials. Their dedicated efforts focused on sweeping, collecting litter, and removing debris, with particular attention to the premises of the revered Peer Baba Kanju Sahib Dargah and its immediate surroundings.
The local community warmly welcomed and actively joined hands with the NSS volunteers, exemplifying the spirit of unity and community service. Together, they succeeded in restoring cleanliness and preserving the pristine beauty of this revered religious site.
The event was skillfully organized by Prof. Bushra Nizami, NSS Programme Officer, and Prof. Shamshad Bibi, highlighting the commitment of the academic institution to instilling values of community service and environmental responsibility in its students.
This commendable initiative at Peer Baba Kanju Sahib Dargah not only pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi's legacy but also serves as a powerful reminder of the collective responsibility to maintain the cleanliness and sanctity of our shared spaces. The NSS unit of GDC Kunjwani sets a shining example of citizen engagement and community service for a cleaner and more harmonious society.
