Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 1: The NSS Unit, known as 'KHIDMAT,' at Government Degree College (GDC) Vijaypur collaborated with the ECO-Club and IQAC to organize a massive cleanliness drive within and around the college campus. This initiative was conducted as part of the "Swachhata Hi Seva" campaign, initiated by the Government of India, to emphasize the importance of cleanliness and sanitation in the country. The event also aimed to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti 2023 under the umbrella of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (Addiction-Free India) and Bhrashtachaar Mukt Jammu & Kashmir (Corruption-Free J&K).
The primary objective of the program was to raise awareness among students about the significance and benefits of cleanliness. NSS volunteers, Green Warriors, students, and staff of GDC Vijaypur, along with the college sweepers, actively participated in the clean-up drive. They collected scattered wrappers and other debris, ensuring proper disposal in designated dustbins.
Prof. Poonam Kundan, the Convenor of the ECO-Club, delivered a speech to the students, highlighting the importance of sanitation. The event concluded with students and staff taking an Anti-Drug and Non-Violence pledge.
Dr. Vandana Gupta, Principal of the College, provided valuable guidance for the event. She expressed that this unique experience had a lasting impact on all participants, inspiring them to continue engaging in such cleanliness initiatives. The college holds similar events each year to instill the habit of maintaining clean surroundings.
The entire program was coordinated by Dr. Shittal Sharma, Convenor of IQAC, Dr. Naseem Chowdhary, NSS Programme Officer, and Prof. Poonam Kundan, Convenor of the Eco-Club at the college. The organizing committee included Mazid Malik, Dr. Madhu Bala, Dr. Tisha Gupta, Dr. Pooja Gupta, Dr. Radhika Rasyal, Dr. Shallu Sharma, and Renuka Kundal. This initiative brought together students and staff to work collaboratively toward raising awareness about cleanliness and taking action to make a positive impact on the environment.
