Hyderabad, Oct 1: NMDC, the largest iron ore producer in the country, organized a Mega Cleanliness Drive at its Head Office, Projects, and Regional Offices across the country on October 1, 2023. This initiative was part of the “Swachhata Hi Seva, Special Campaign 3.0” observed by NMDC from September 15, 2023, to October 2, 2023. In anticipation of Gandhi Jayanti, the Prime Minister called for 1 hour of Shramdaan for Swachhata on October 1st, inviting all citizens to collectively pay homage to Bapu on his birth anniversary through Swachhanjali. NMDC, in honor of Mahatma Gandhi, conducted a massive cleanliness drive and Prabhat Pheri (morning procession) at its major projects in Kirandul, Bacheli, Donimalai, and Panna. Each project took responsibility for cleaning one village through Jan bhagidari (public participation).
NMDC employees demonstrated their commitment to cleanliness during the notable Cleanliness Drive at NMDC Head Office. Employees from various projects and regional offices also participated in cleanliness activities and contributed to the cause as responsible citizens. In alignment with the Prime Minister’s vision of a garbage-free India, NMDC organized a painting competition for students under the Swachhata Hi Sewa Campaign at its Head Office in Hyderabad. The competition aimed to raise public awareness by engaging young talent. Participants showcased their talent and passion for the cause through their original and innovative artwork.
Satyendar Rai, ED (P&A), remarked, “NMDC is proud to be an active participant in the Swachh Bharat Mission and regularly organizes massive cleanliness and plantation drives at its Head Office and Projects. As a responsible mining company, we must take charge of cleanliness in our respective areas and embrace eco-friendly practices to ensure a green and sustainable future.”
Highlighting the importance of cleanliness for a cleaner and greener nation, NMDC organized various cleaning activities at workplaces, awareness programs at offices and schools, and cleanliness initiatives in public spaces such as townships, marketplaces, bus stops, and other public places.
