Early Times Report

Kathua, Oct 1: As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign, NSS volunteers from Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua organized a cleanliness drive both within the college campus and in the adopted village on 1st October. This nationwide campaign, titled “Ek October, Ek Ghante Ke Liye, Subah Dus Baje Se, Swacchta Ke Liye Kare Shramdaan,” encourages citizens to dedicate one hour of their morning on October 1st to cleanliness efforts.
The cleanliness drive at GDC Kathua was launched by the college’s Principal, Prof. Seema Mir, who was accompanied by staff members, NSS program officers, and NSS volunteers. The cleanup initiative extended to various areas within the college campus, including the college auditorium, Geography Department, Girls Park, administrative block, and the NSS Park. Volunteers collected plastic, polythene, and other waste materials from these areas and disposed of them properly.
Following the campus cleanup, the NSS volunteers carried out a cleanliness drive in the NSS-adopted village, Bhagthali Panchayat, Jarai, Block Nagri, Kathua. In addition to cleaning the village, the volunteers conducted a door-to-door campaign to raise awareness about cleanliness and hygiene among the villagers. The active participation of villagers boosted the morale of the volunteers.
The event culminated with the Swachhta pledge, where the senior-most volunteer, Meenakshi Bakshi, read out the pledge. The entire initiative was carried out under the patronage of Principal Prof. Seema Mir and the supervision of NSS program officers, Prof. Manmohan Singh, Prof. Neha Bandral, and Dr. Suresh Sharma. The campaign showcased the commitment of GDC Kathua’s NSS volunteers to promoting cleanliness and hygiene both on campus and in the adopted village.
