| Curbing accidents | | Traffic Police to get tough with violators | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 3: All the Deputy Commissioners of the state have been asked to take drastic steps in their respective district with regard to fitness of vehicles, licenses of drivers to prevent accidents. The steps taken in this regard will be reviewed by the chief minister in the next meeting. As per police handout traffic department has prepared a road safety measures of the state indentifying places where dangerous bends require to be removed, parapets to be erected and need to put up danger signs. The Chief Engineer PWD (R&B) Jammu has already initiated the process and has been allotted funds to the tune of Rs. 42.00 lacs in this regard. The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has also been given similar directions by the government for initiating these measures on war footing to make the roads safer and prevent accidents. The Traffic Police has also conveyed to all transport Unions to conduct checking of the documents at their places of origination so that there is no need to conduct checking of documents on the routes. They have been conveyed to remove shrill horns, black films, unspecified number plates, stereos, objectionable writings, if any, from their vehicles. The drive to this effect shall be launched in 2nd week of February 2009. This action shall be a continuous feature all over the State and the public is informed to make use of seat belts while driving, not to use coloured number plates, remove dark films of vehicles, desist from using mobile phone while driving, wear helmets on two wheelers and avoid triple riding.
