| World Wetland Day celebrated at Mansar | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, FEB 3: World Wetland Day was yesterday celebrated in Mansar Wetland Conservation with a theme “Upstream Downstream Wetlands Connect us all”. Local people, students, NGO’s, members of eco-development committees, departmental officers and officials participated in the function. Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) and Regional Wildlife Warden Jammu, Mr. P. K. Singh was the chief guest on the occasion. A painting and debate competition was organized by the department highlighting the role of wetlands in life support system to the mankind. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Singh briefed the gathering about the importance of these wetlands, their ecological, aquatic biodiversity value and significance of livelihood improvement of the local population. He further added that wetlands have rich potential to improve the economy of the local people. He informed that eco-tourism plan has been framed by the department in association with Jungle Lodges and Resorts, a government of Karnatka undertaking. Later, Mr. Singh distributed prizes among the winners of debate and painting competitions.
