| PHE Ministers asks Engineers to complete Sitli project in time | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, FEBRUARY 03 – Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Mr. Taj Mohi-ud-Din has directed the concerned executing agency of Sitlee Water Supply Project, Phase III, to take all necessary measures for stopping inflow of Tawi river water into the project compound. He said he will personally monitor the work on the project. The leakage from the embankments of the river is hampering the construction work of the water supply project. The Minister said this today while visiting the project site. He asked the concerned authorities to submit weekly progress reports and take all preventive measures to stop seepage of water inside the project premises. Principal Secretary, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Mr. A. K. Angurana, Chief Engineer, PHE, Mr. A. K. Abrol, Managing Director, JKPCC, Mr. R. K. Thussu, concerned Executive Engineer, PHE, Mr. S. Shiv Nanda and other senior officers accompanied the Minister during his visit to the project.
While taking stock of the work on site, the Minister asked the executing agency to work in double shifts, adding that all resources should be pooled in to complete the project on time. He also issued instructions for use of quality material in the construction of the project and asked the PHE Department to monitor all ongoing development schemes. Taj was informed that Phase III of Sitlee Water Supply Project would come up at a cost of Rs. 27.84 crore. The completion of the project would add 5.4 million gallons of drinking water and would benefit about two lakh people of Jammu city including old city, New Plot, Janipur, Roopnagar, Banatalab, Bakshi Nagar, Patta Paloura, Dhok Paloura, Maheshpura, Prem Nagar, Muthi and parts of Rehari. The Minister said the Government was determined to fulfil the promises made with people of the State for providing safe drinking water facility and added that several measures have been initiated for taking up potable water schemes across the State.
