J&K climber Arun Deep Singh becomes North Zone Sport Climbing Champion in men's category

JAMMU, Oct 4: Arun Deep Singh of Jammu and Kashmir clinched the coveted title of North Zone Sport Climbing Champion in the Men's category by emerging victorious in Lead climbing, the concluding event of the 27th North Zone Sport Climbing Championship held in Delhi. This victory marked the eighth medal for J&K in the championship.
While Arun Deep Singh secured the gold in Lead climbing, Kashish Bharti also showcased commendable performance in the Junior Boys category but managed to secure the fourth place in both Lead climbing and Bouldering.
Overall, the J&K team delivered a praiseworthy performance, securing a total of 1 Gold, 4 Silver, and 3 Bronze medals. Alongside Arun Deep Singh's Gold and Bronze, Kafeel Ul Haq from Pulwama earned two Silver medals in Speed Climbing and Bouldering, in addition to a Bronze in Lead climbing in the Sub Junior Boys Category. Shilpa Charak, the senior-most climber from J&K, claimed 2 silver medals in Lead and Speed Climbing but narrowly missed a podium finish in the Bouldering competition. Ankit Singh of Kishtwar also put up a strong performance, securing a Bronze medal in Speed Climbing in the Sub Junior Boys category.
Upon their return from Delhi, the climbers were welcomed at Sprawling Buds School, Bantalab, Jammu, by Chairman Rahul Sharma, who also serves as the Patron of Tawi Trekkers J&K. Congratulating the climbers on their impressive performance in the zonal competition, he announced that Tawi Trekkers J&K would honor all the members of the J&K team in an upcoming function. Arti Sharma, Director of Apple Kids International Pre School, Bantalab, pledged full support to the climbers for enhancing their performance in future competitions. Shawetica Khajuria and Ram Khajuria, General Secretary and Sr. Vice President of Mountaineering Association of J&K, also commended the team's performance and personally congratulated all the climbers for bringing pride to J&K UT and the Mountaineering Association of J&K.
