Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 4: Care for You, a prominent society in Jammu and Kashmir dedicated to various social service initiatives, marked the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by organizing a "Swachta hi Seva" (Cleanliness is Service) campaign in different villages across the region. This endeavor was in line with the directives of the Government of India and aimed to promote the message of 'One India, Clean India' while raising awareness about the importance of clean and hygienic surroundings for overall health and wellness.
Volunteers from the foundation, stationed in various districts, including Kathua, Samba, Doda, Kishtwar, and others, enthusiastically participated in the cleanliness drive. Their mission was to emphasize that a litter-free environment, be it in villages, apartments, neighborhoods, or homes, is essential for the well-being of all.
Notably, Home Minister of India, Shri Amit Shah, took to Twitter to congratulate the people of Jammu and Kashmir for achieving the remarkable feat of 100% Open Defecation Free (ODF) status in the country. He praised the leadership qualities of LG Manoj Sinha and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this achievement.
"Swachta hi Seva" is a nationwide cleanliness campaign in India designed to instill a sense of responsibility for cleanliness and hygiene among citizens. It encourages individuals and organizations to actively engage in cleaning and maintaining their surroundings.
The volunteers, with the support of students, homemakers, and men from various villages in Samba, Kathua, Kishtwar, Doda, Poonch, and other regions, carried out the cleanliness drive and explained why such initiatives are a government priority. They emphasized the vital role cleanliness plays in achieving inclusive and holistic societal development.
Each cleanliness drive concluded with a pledge session, where participants resolved to make cleanliness a daily routine in their lives. Men, women, young boys, and girls from the villages enthusiastically contributed to the success of the drive.
Local residents, students, and volunteers actively participated in the event, cleaning streets and public spaces. They were provided with necessary tools and equipment, including brooms, dustbins, and gloves, to ensure safe and effective cleaning.
The foundation's volunteers expressed their gratitude to all participants and praised the district administration and state authorities for promoting such initiatives that encourage public participation and contribute to the well-being of society as a whole.
