| Sagar meets people, takes stock of various ongoing developmental works | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 03 – Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar today said that concerned recruitment agencies and Deputy Commissioners have been asked to speed up the recruitment process in the State and added that 8,000 teachers would be absorbed in Government service soon, besides creation of 5,500 jobs in IRP.
The Minister said the Government is fully aware of people's problems, adding that development and welfare measures are underway to provide basic facilities like power, water supply, road connectivity and better medicare to the people. He said a comprehensive plan is being formulated to tackle unemployment problem in the State in a phased manner, which is a big challenge for the Government.
Addressing public meetings at Tral, Koimoh and Semthan, the Minister said the youth are the future of our nation and it is their foremost duty to work for the overall development and prosperity of the State. He said the appointments in various departments would be made in a fair and transparent manner.
Earlier, chairing a meeting of officers at Tral, Mr. Sagar was apprised that Rs. 3.43 crore are being spent on two water supply schemes of Naristan-Baginder and Amirabad-Chandrigam and, so far, Rs. 1.46 crore have been utilised. It was also told that construction of SDH, Tral has been taken up at a cost of Rs. 6 crore, of which Rs. 2 crore stands spent so far.
The Minister directed the officers to launch a vigorous drive to make people aware about various rural development schemes, particularly NREGA, which aims at providing 100 days employment to the unemployed youth in rural areas. He asked the officers to ensure that benefits of development works reach the poorest of the poor.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Mr. Ishtiyaq Ahmad Ashai and other senior officers.
The Minister also directed the officers to take up immediate repairs of Nowdul Bridge which was damaged recently.
The Minister also inspected the 1.50-km Awantipora-Lalagam Road being constructed under Prime Minister’s Grameen Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). He asked the concerned authorities to speed up pace on the road and also extend it so as to connect it with Dadsar Road. He was informed that Rs. 41 lakh has been expended on Lalpora-Muchhama Road out of an allocation of Rs. 99 lakh and the road would be completed by September this year. It was also given out that out of 36 works taken up under NREGA, six works have been completed at a cost of Rs. 7.57 lakh, thus generating 9,355 work days. He asked engineers to step up the pace of work and utilize all the funds allocated under NREGA.
Mr. Sagar said that self-help groups should be encouraged, which creates employment avenues for unemployed and also ensures development. He asked the officers to visit their respective areas to assess the public problems and redress them on priority.
Later, a large number of people met the Minister at Sangam, who demanded repair of Sangam-Natipora Road. The Minister directed the concerned engineer to prepare the DPR and submit it for approval to the authorities. At Arenhal Koimoh, people demanded construction of retaining wall of graveyard, besides school building. They also donated 182 kanals of land for construction of hospital in the area.
At Semthan, people demanded adequate compensation of land acquired for Wanpoh-Sangam Bypass Road.
Speaking at Koimoh, the Minister said a number of income-generating schemes have not been taken to the people and said that there was lack of awareness regarding these among the rural people. He asked concerned officers to make people aware about the State and Centrally-sponsored schemes which could uplift life standard of the rural people.
Mr. Sagar said those officers who would perform well would be encouraged by the Government.
