Top HuJI commander nabbed in Kishtwar

JAMMU, FEB 03: Kishtwar police claimed major success by apprehending a top commander of militant organization Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islami.
The arrested militant has been identified as Abdullah Bakerwal alias Jameel alias Dulla. On a specific information, he was arrested from Watser area under the jurisdiction of Police Station, Chatroo.
An operation was launched under the command of Deputy Superintendent of Police (Operations), Ashok Singh in the said area. During the search operation in the wee hours, a suspicious movement was noticed by the operation party, which was challenged. The person, instead, fired back on the operation party and tried to escape the cordon. An exchange of firing took place resulting in an encounter. The said militant, after sensing that he has been circled and overpowered by the operation party, preferred to lay his arms before the operation party.
After proper security drill, the militant was taken into custody. The militant is a 36 years old S/O Ghulam Bakerwal, R/O Kansar Tehsil and District Reasi, presently Kanwar Chatroo. From his possession, one AK 56 rifle, two AK Magazines, Live AK Rounds 07, one Chinese grenade and one wireless set was recovered.
A case under FIR No 10/2009, under section 307, RPC 7/27 Arms act stand registered at Police Station Chatroo. The arrested militant is a Pak-trained and longest surviving of HUJI outfit and was presently working as District Commander for Kishtwar. He had joined the militancy in 1995 and had been active initially in Reasi district and later shifted to Chatroo-Kishtwar in 2000. The militant married twice, once in Reasi and second time in Chatroo.
During the preliminary questioning, the militant has admitted his involvement in many cases of killing and other militancy-related incidents. Many cases are already registered against him in Police Station, Chatroo. The said militant had been a terror in the area and has been involved in number of unreported extortions, forcible marriages and land dispute cases.
People heaved a sigh of relief on the capture of the dreaded militant and appreciated the police for its timely action that has removed the fear psychosis among the people in the area.
