| Fly Dubai @ Rs 1300 | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 3: As Jammu and Kashmir braces up for its first non-stop contact with any foreign country later this month, the flying has been made not only a pleasure but also unimaginably affordable. A flight from Srinagar to Dubai has been priced at Rs 1300 plus the normal taxes which in any case is likely to be lesser than what costs flying between Jammu and Delhi. Srinagar airport is all set for attaining international status by the middle of this month and the first international flight will take off for Dubai. Congress president Sonia Gandhi is expected to formally inaugurate the airport and see the first flight off. India’s low-cost carrier, Air India Express, has announced that it would commence operations to Srinagar, its 12th destination from Dubai, from this month. From February 14, the carrier, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Air India, will operate once-a-week non-stop flights from Srinagar to Dubai on Saturdays. Biswajit Mukherji, Manager, Dubai & Northern Emirates, Air India and Air India Express, said,''there would be a one-way introductory fare starting from Rs 1300 (Dh99) plus taxes.'' ''The carrier, which commenced operations in 2005, would increase its fleet to 25 aircrafts by 2009-end, from 20 next generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft it currently operates,'' he added. The competition in the highly profitable Gulf India sector has recently been hotting up and even the premium carrier Emirates has slahsed its prices for India-bound flights.
