Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 8: The National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), Field Operations Division, under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India, Regional Office in Jammu, hosted a Review Regional Training Camp for the Household Consumer Expenditure Survey (HCES) for the 2023-24 Phase-II. The inauguration of the camp was officiated by Kishore Kumar, Deputy Director General of the National Sample Survey Office.
The training event brought together officers and field staff from NSSO (FOD) Regional Office Jammu and Sub-Regional Office Udhampur.
During the training, participants were apprised of the significance of the survey. It was highlighted that the information collected during the survey would primarily be utilized to prepare a weighting diagram, determining budget shares of various commodity groups in total consumption. This data will be instrumental in compiling Consumer Price Indices for Rural and Urban India. Additionally, statistical indicators related to the standard of living, social consumption, well-being, and inequalities will also be derived from the survey data.
In his inaugural address, Kishore Kumar underscored the pivotal role played by the National Sample Survey Office in developing a robust statistical database for use by planners, policymakers, researchers, and various other agencies at both the national and international levels. He emphasized the importance of the ongoing survey and urged the residents of the state to extend their full cooperation to the field officers and officials of NSSO (FOD), Government of India, by providing accurate and reliable information.
R.K. Sharma Kumar, Assistant Director of NSSO (FOD), Regional Office Jammu, delivered a welcome address and provided a brief overview of the NSSO Survey conducted by field officials. He stressed the crucial role these surveys play in the nation-building process.
The Training Camp aimed to provide insights into various terms, concepts, procedures, and definitions employed in various schedules of the HCES Survey. Discussions centered on concepts, definitions, technical terms, and the content of schedules to be canvassed during the survey, along with data entry using CAPI (Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing). It is expected that officers and field staff of NSSO (FOD) engaged in data collection will derive significant benefits from this training program.
The training sessions were conducted by Shri Sunil K. Khar, Senior Statistical Officer of NSSO (FOD), Regional Office Jammu.
