| PDP concerned over shortage of essential commodities in Valley | | | Early Times Report Srinagar Feb 4- Expressing serious concern over shortage of essentials commodities and erratic power supply in the Valley, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the state government to take concrete measures for long term pro-consumer public distribution system to ensure smooth supply of consumer goods in the Valley. . In a joint statement issued here today, senior PDP leaders Muhammad Dilawar Mir, Peer Muhammad Hussain and Sartaj Madni said that the shortage of food grains in far flung and rural areas of the Valley and erratic power supply was a telling comment on the sad state of departmental mismanagement. "The people are complaining that ration depots in the rural areas have virtually run dry" PDP leaders said and added that the administration has been paying little attention to the issue of supplies and stocking. They alleged that unscrupulous elements are having a field day amassing wealth at the cost of causing inconvenience and insecurity to the common masses and added that it seems more to be the typical case of improper distribution, hoarding and black marketeering. They impressed upon the government to rise to the occasion and take cognizance of complaints of artificial shortage created by the unscrupulous elements in the valley. "Such complaints should put the government on toes, especially to check the official nexus that is strengthening the practice of hoarding and black marketeering" PDP leaders maintained adding that some officials are obviously patronizing the unscrupulous elements. This has to be checked to ensure that enough food is available at the doorsteps of the people in all regions, especially those living in far flung and remote hilly areas.
