JU hosts inter-collegiate Chess Championship | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 10: The University of Jammu, under the aegis of the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, organized the Inter-Collegiate Chess Championship 2023-24 at the Gymnasium Hall. On the second day of the tournament, several exciting matches took place. Men's Section Results: GCET Jammu defeated GDC Doda by a score of (3-1) points. MIET Jammu beat GDC Ramnagar with a score of (3-1) points. GDC Bhaderwah triumphed over GDC Thanamandi with a dominating score of (4-0) points. In a fiercely contested match, GDC Nowshera emerged victorious against GDC Bishnah with a score of (3.5-2.5) points. GDC Kathua secured a win against GDC R.S. Pura with a score of (3-1) points. GDC Udhampur dominated GDC Purmandal with a perfect score of (4-0) points. Women's Section Results: GMC Rajouri displayed an impressive performance, defeating MIER Jammu with a score of (3.5-0.5) points. GDC Poonch emerged victorious against GDC Kathua with a score of (3-1) points. The Postgraduate Department at Jammu University showcased its chess prowess by beating GCW Kathua with a score of (3.5-0.5) points. Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director of the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education at the University of Jammu, supervised the matches, ensuring their smooth progress. The matches were officiated by Sh. S. P Sharma, Sh. Sushil Sawhney, S. Inderjeet Singh, and Padam Dev Singh. Tomorrow, the pre-quarterfinal matches of the men's section and the quarterfinal matches of the women's section are scheduled to take place, promising more exciting chess action. |
