KVK trains farm women on value addition in seasonal fruits

REASI, Oct 10: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu organised training programme on "Value addition in seasonal fruits for rural development" here today at Sirla village in Reasi district of J&K. The programme was attended by a number of women farmers of village. The programme was organised under the able guidance of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.BN Tripathi and Director Extension, Prof.SK Gupta of SKUAST-J. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr.Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi initiated the programme with warm welcome of the participants. He highlighted the importance of fruit processing and motivated the farm women on value addition in various seasonal fruits so that they can increase their income. He said that aonla candy, juice, jam, sauce, pickles etc. have immense scope in the market and farm women should produce the commercial level of these commodities to enhance their income and employment. He also guided the participants on the packing, branding, labeling and marketing of value added products of seasonal fruits. He stressed on the SHGs/FPOs formation. Dr.Suja Nabi Qureshi, Scientist guided the participants on the scientific techniques of aonla candy, jam, juice and pickles making. He stressed on the quality value added products from seasonal fruits for a good market. He also guided the farm women on the fruit preservation and ingredients used in the value added products of fruits. He suggested certain scientific techniques to increase the shelf life of processed products of seasonal fruits. During this programme, participants asked various quarries regarding the value addition in seasonal fruits which were answered by the KVK scientists in a satisfactorily way. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and formal vote of thanks was proposed by Dr.Suja Nabi Qureshi.
