NDS holds interactive session with eminent music composer Prithvi Raj Sharma

JAMMU, Oct 10: Nami Dogri Sanstha (NDS) organized an interactive session titled "Ikk Malatti" featuring Pt. Prithvi Raj Sharma, a veteran and renowned Music Composer of Jammu and Kashmir. During the event, Pt. Prithvi Raj Sharma's music compositions were performed by distinguished singers Prof. Suraj Singh, Prof. Anupama Sharma, Amit Anand, and Vijay Anand on Dholak and Tabla, respectively.
The program was presided over by Padam Shree Jatinder Udhampuri, former Director of All India Radio (AIR) and Sahitya Academy Awardee. Nidhi Dogra Sharma, Patron of Dogra Samaaj Trust Mumbai and the daughter of the eminent politician Girdhari Lal Dogra Ji, was the Chief Guest. Prof. Nirmal Vinod, an eminent poet and writer in Dogri and Hindi and a Sahitya Academy Awardee, served as the Guest of Honour.
The event was attended by Capt Lalit Sharma, Convener of NDS; Prof. Anupama Sharma, Patron of NDS; Dogra Harish Kaila, President of NDS; and Pandit Prithvi Raj Sharma Ji, along with other dignitaries and a large audience of literary figures, artists, art enthusiasts, prominent music artists, and citizens.
Capt. Lalit Sharma presented a paper on the life and works of Pt. Prithvi Raj Sharma. In his opening address, he praised Pt. Prithvi Raj Sharma as a tall music composer of Jammu and Kashmir, whose talent and acumen are on par with Bollywood standards. Pt. Prithvi Raj Sharma, the son of the eminent singer Pt. Mansa Ram Sharma Ji and the younger brother of O.P. Sharma "Sarthi," has worked under the guidance of famous Bollywood music composers Ravi Ji and Madan Mohan. He is a B Plus Artist of AIR and Doordarshan and has made significant contributions to Dogri music, including composing the music for the famous Dogri album of environmental songs, "Mein Ga Karna."
Despite being 86 years old, Pt. Prithvi Raj Sharma remains vibrant and energetic, continuing to contribute to the field of music. He was honored with the "Sahitya Shree" award by NDS, which included a shawl, memento, and citation.
During the event, a young Jammu music composer and singer, Kanish Sharma, known for his work in Bollywood films and commercial advertisements for major companies like Reliance, also performed.
In his presidential address, Dr. Jatinder Udhampuri praised Pt. Prithvi Raj Sharma and emphasized the unifying and enriching role of music in society. He highlighted the divine aspect of music, underscoring its significant role in creating a refined and civilized society. Nidhi Dogra Sharma called for collaborations between NDS and DST (Dogra Samaaj Trust) to promote the Dogri language and Duggar culture. She emphasized the need for unity among the Dogra community for the promotion of Duggar culture and national interests.
Prof. Nirmal Vinod stressed the importance of reading and appreciating Dogri literature and called for critical appreciation of every literary and artistic endeavor.
In his remarks, Pt. Prithvi Raj Sharma advocated for a separate "Duggar Channel" to promote the local language, art, culture, and local writers and artists. This proposal received unanimous support from all participants.
It was also decided unanimously during the meeting that NDS would soon convene a press conference to highlight important issues and demands related to languages and local culture.
