Maulana Azad Memorial College Jammu Collaborates with BARC

Jammu, Oct 11: Maulana Azad Memorial College Jammu, in collaboration with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai, successfully organized a "Scientific And Technical Outreach Programme" on October 11, 2023. The event, coordinated by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Science Club, and the Department of Physics at Maulana Azad Memorial College, was held from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm.
The Department of Atomic Energy, through BARC, conducted this nationwide outreach programme, which included lectures, seminars, skits, and more to provide insights into BARC technologies. This initiative aimed to share research and technological knowledge in the fields of nuclear power production and advancements in nuclear science. BARC, a premier institution in nuclear research, extended its expertise to students and faculty, enriching their academic landscape and equipping their minds with the tools to make a difference in the world.
The inaugural session of the programme was hosted by Prof. Rakesh Sharma, Associate Professor of Electronics and Coordinator of the Programme. The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp and Saraswati Vandana. Prof. Rajesh Kumar Gupta, Head of the Physics Department and Convenor of the Programme, welcomed all attendees and provided a brief introduction to the event.
The programme began with a preliminary quiz round, which started at 9:30 am and saw the participation of around 150 students. Shri. R.K.B. Yadav, a well-known scientist from BARC, delivered a lecture on "Radiation Safety in Health and Environment," followed by an interactive session. Another lecture on "Nuclear Reactor" was given by Shri. S. Mondal. After the interactive session, a skit titled "Nuclear Reactor – Harit Urja Ka Akshay Srot" was performed by a team of scientists from BARC, followed by lunch.
The programme included two more lectures: "Food Irradiation Technology: A Need of the Hour" by Shri. S. Prabhakar and "Innovation & Opportunities in BARC" by Smt. Heema Rao, which was followed by another skit and the final quiz round, coordinated by R.K. Mishra from BARC.
The Scientific and Technical Outreach Programme is a testament to the college's commitment to excellence in education and its mission to empower students and faculty with the knowledge, skills, and inspiration needed to make a positive impact on society and in research.
The programme concluded with a valedictory function, feedback session, and prize distribution. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Vishal Sharma, Head of Electronics and Convener of the Institutional Innovation Council (IIC) at the College. The event was organized under the patronage of Dr. G.S. Rakwal, Principal of Maulana Azad Memorial College, and Dr. Sanjay K. Karlupia, Officiating Principal of Maulana Azad Memorial College Jammu. Volunteers from the National Service Scheme- Self Financing Unit (NSS-SFU) and NCC cadets provided valuable assistance in organizing the event. Other staff members and committees of the College contributed to the event's resounding success.
