| Harshdev demands Degree College for Majalta | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 4- Harsh Dev Singh NPP MLA and former minister has sought the opening of a Degree College in Majalta so as to mitigate the hardships caused to the students of the area pursuing higher education. In a communiqué to the Chief Minister, who also holds the charge of Minister of Higher Education, Harsh Dev Singh said that majority of the students are forced to give up their studies after 10+2 in the absence of Degree College in the said Tehsil. He said that girl students face the greatest problem as they cannot travel 40-50 kms daily to pursue their College education at Udhampur with the result the drop out rate amongst the girls is the highest. He said that girl education has been adversely affected in the area which was a great cause of concern. Harsh Dev Singh said that Majalta Tehsil with a huge catchments and the highest number of feeding 10+2 schools in the District Udhampur had a better claim for opening of a Degree College than any other place. He apprised Chief Minister that the Panthers Party had filed a writ petition also in the High Court demanding the opening of Degree College in Majalta, Chenani and Sunderbani in view of widespread public demand and the same was sub-justice in the J&K High Court. In the meanwhile, Harsh Dev Singh called upon the Higher Education Department to ensure early establishment of ITI institute at Ramnagar in view of the same having been cleared by the planning and finance departments. He further called for making up the deficiency of teaching staff in all education institutions including newly opened colleges and upgraded schools. He sought immediate release of promotion lists of teachers, masters, Head Masters, lecturers so as to fill up the odd 4000 promotional avenues available in the Education Department.
