| Focus on vocational, value based education: Sham to teachers | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU FEBUARY 04 – Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma has asked the teaching fraternity to club academic education with vocational know-how and skill training so that educational institutions not only churn out academically qualified youth but act as propellers of growth and self sustenance. Speaking at the annual day function of Government Higher Secondary School, Nardi-Bala in Akhnoor, the Minister said that in the present times of eroding morality in the society, value-based education should be imparted to the children so that young generation is able to adapt itself to the changing environment without forgetting their values. Remembering the age old tradition of ‘Guru-Shishya’ embedded in our culture, the Minister urged upon the teachers to maintain cordial relations with the students and prepare them for meeting future challenges. He said that the maxims of teaching should be adhered for bettering the teaching-learning process adding, that cordial teaching environment adds to the learning experience. To improve the standard of education at different levels, Mr. Sham Lal said the Government is laying stress on equipping the different educational institutions with basic infrastructure besides, consolidating the existing infrastructure to improve the access of students of rural and far- flung areas to quality education. He said that all institutions would be provided adequate equipment to strengthen the laboratories apart from posting adequate staff specialised in different subjects so that gainful instructions are imparted to students. To enhance the literacy rate, primary schools would be opened in all the left out villages, he added. A colourful cultural programme based on the culture of the State was also presented by the students. Later, the Minister distributed prizes to the students excelling in various curricular and extra-curricular activities.
