Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Oct 14: The Kashmiri Pandit community, which has been living in temporary exile for more than three decades, faces a multitude of challenges and problems in their daily lives. One of the most pressing challenges is the illegal encroachments and unlawful possession of their lands, shrines, and temples in the Kashmir Valley by certain anti-social elements. This issue is further exacerbated by the failure of the designated custodians to restore, preserve, and protect their properties under the Immovable Migrant Property Act of 1997.
In a statement released today, the senior Kashmiri Pandit leader, Shri M. K. Yogi, expressed deep concern over the issue of restoring, preserving, and protecting migrant lands in the Kashmir Valley from illegal occupants. He pointed out the significant failure of the authorities responsible for acting as custodians of migrant property under the Immovable Migrant Property Act of 1997. This failure, he emphasized, is a violation of clear and direct directives issued earlier.
Yogi highlighted that the designated custodians have, in many instances, failed to restore and protect migrant lands from illegal occupants. This, he believes, is largely due to the lack of seriousness and commitment at the lower levels of administration, despite clear directives from the highest offices in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Yogi, in his statement, once again appealed to the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to issue unambiguous directives to the custodians for the strict implementation of the Immovable Migrant Property Act of 1997. He also called for strict accountability and the imposition of severe punishments in cases of any lapses or negligence in addressing this crucial issue.
The Kashmiri Pandit community, which has faced significant challenges and displacement, is seeking the protection and restoration of their properties as an essential step in preserving their cultural heritage and securing their rights. Shri M. K. Yogi's appeal underscores the urgency of addressing this issue and ensuring that the law is enforced in its true spirit.
