JAMMU FEB 4: All six nominations for four vacant Rajya Sabha seats received in response to the notification of Election Commission have been found valid during scrutiny here today by the Returning Officer.
The candidates whose nomination papers were scrutinized include Union Minister for Water Resources, Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz (INC), former Chief Ministers, Dr. Farooq Abdullah (NC) and Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad (INC), Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari (PDP) and Advocate Ashok Vijay Gupta (Independent).
These seats had fallen vacant due to completion of term of Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Trilok Singh Bhajwa and Ch. Mohammad Aslam.
The last date of withdrawal of nominations is February 6 and voting for the seats will be conducted on February 13.
Minister for Finance, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Mr. Mohammad Shafi Uri, Advocate Ashok Vijay Gupta, former Union Minister and BJP leader, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, former Advocate General, Mr, Altaf Naik, several legislators and representatives of the candidates were present at the time of the scrutiny
