10/16/2023 10:26:50 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

DARHAL, Oct 16: In honor of the Khadi movement initiated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1920, which served as a powerful political tool for boycotting foreign goods and kindled a spirit of independence and self-discipline among Indians, GDC Darhal’s NSS unit (IMDAD) organized a “Poster and Slogan Competition” on the 16th of October. The event was held under the banner of “Atma Nirbar Bharat” and focused on the theme “Khadi for Atma Nirbar Bharat,” with the objective of promoting Khadi handloom, handicrafts, village industries, and other local products to strengthen self-reliance and independence among the local population.
The NSS volunteers of the college participated in the competition with immense enthusiasm and creativity, crafting innovative posters and slogans that championed Khadi and locally-made products.
The competition resulted in Hibza Malik from Semester 1st securing the first prize, followed by Umar Khalil from Semester 3rd in second place, and Shabaz Malik from Semester 5th in third place. Areeba Malik from Semester 1st was awarded the consolation prize. The entire event was conducted under the capable guidance of Prof. Mussaraf Hussain Shah, the esteemed Principal of GDC Darhal. In his address, he emphasized the importance of Khadi Mahotsav in raising awareness, particularly among students and youth, about the significance of local products like Khadi and handloom for the nation’s economy, ecology, and women’s empowerment. He encouraged the youth to promote and adopt these products, underlining their contribution to national pride and patriotism.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Sunil Kumar Mangoch, the NSS Program Officer, and adjudicated by Prof. Tahir Mahmood. It culminated with a pledge ceremony, where participants committed to regularly using Khadi and village industries’ products to support the livelihoods of the country’s artisans and contribute to the country’s progress and development.
