Shivani Charak, Star Sport Climber from Jammu Felicitated for Asian Games Representation | | |  Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 16: Shivani Charak, a remarkable sport climber from Jammu and Kashmir, received a grand felicitation for her exceptional achievement in representing India at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Her achievement brought great pride to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The felicitation ceremony was held at the Press Club of Jammu and organized by her club, Tawi Trekkers J&K. The event was graced by numerous dignitaries, including: • Chief Guest Ashwani Sharma, a former MLA. • Guests of Honor Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Chairman of Team Jammu and Co-Chairman of the club; Ajay Khajuria, a former Director of Tourism; Parveen Sharma, Chairman of the Citizen’s Cooperative Bank Ltd; Patron of the Club Rahul Sharma; President and General Secretary of the club Ram Khajuria and Shawetica Khajuria. • Several prominent individuals from educational institutions, including Prof. C K Khajuria, a former General Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K; Prof. Suman Lata, Director of Physical Education at Govt College for Women, Parade, Jammu; Vivek Chauhan, Principal of Oriental Academy Sr. Secondary School, Jammu; and Mridhu Padha, Vice Principal of St. Xavier Convent Sr. Sec. School, Barnai. Shivani Charak’s accomplishment was celebrated with great enthusiasm during the felicitation. She was profusely garlanded, commended, and wished success in her future competitions. Ram Khajuria, while addressing the gathering, highlighted that Shivani’s participation in the Asian Games marked a historic moment as she became the first woman and only the 7th sports personality from Jammu and Kashmir to participate in the Asian Games in the last 75 years. Unlike most others who have a military background, Shivani’s journey was fostered by the Mountaineering Association of J&K and the J&K Sports Council. He also revealed that Shivani is now preparing for the Olympics in Paris, France next year and is gearing up for the Olympic Qualifying event in Indonesia in November 2023. Chief Guest Ashwani Sharma praised Shivani’s unwavering passion for climbing and her outstanding performance on the international stage, despite facing infrastructure and financial challenges. He emphasized that Shivani’s success is a testament to her personal grit, determination, and hard work. At just 21 years of age, Shivani has a promising climbing career ahead, and he expressed confidence in her future success on the world stage. Shivani’s journey to success was made possible by various supporters, including Sprawling Buds ICSE School, the Mountaineering Association of J&K, and the J&K Sports Council, who sponsored teams for local, zonal, and national competitions. Zorawar Singh Jamwal and Ajay Khajuria also addressed the gathering, acknowledging Tawi Trekkers’ significant contributions to the promotion of adventure activities in Jammu and Kashmir. Zorawar Singh, who is also the President of the Mountaineering Association of J&K, expressed optimism that the sport of Sport Climbing would flourish in J&K, particularly with the establishment of a standard climbing wall at M A Stadium, Jammu. He expressed gratitude to the Sports Council for supporting the construction of the climbing wall, anticipating that it would meet the necessary standards for hosting national competitions.
