Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 17: GCW Bhagwati Nagar took a meaningful step towards promoting environmental awareness and sustainable living by organizing a Poster-cum-Slogan writing activity on the theme "Say No to Single Use Plastic" on the 17th of October 2023, within the college campus. This initiative aimed to educate students about the adverse global impact of plastic waste and encourage responsible use of plastic.
Under the able guidance of the college's esteemed Principal, Dr. Meeru Abrol, approximately 15 students wholeheartedly participated in this socially responsible campaign. The posters created by the students were not only aesthetically pleasing but also thought-provoking, possessing the power to inspire reflection and realization. During her address, Dr. Meeru Abrol emphasized the importance of implementing effective measures to reduce plastic waste. She highlighted the need for a ban on single-use plastic within the campus and called for increased responsibility among students to minimize plastic waste.
These measures included avoiding single-use plastics, purchasing items in bulk, opting for sustainable food storage options, supporting local farmer's markets, and ensuring the proper recycling of plastic waste. Dr. Abrol reiterated that maintaining a clean and green environment is fundamental to the ideology of sustainable development. The campaign was organized under the able supervision of Prof. Gagan Jyoti, Head of the Department of Commerce, who also delivered an enlightening lecture on the significance of adopting a healthy lifestyle for the betterment of society. She expounded upon the menace of single-use plastic and its detrimental impact on the environment. The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students of the college. GCW Bhagwati Nagar's "Say No to Single Use Plastic" campaign is a commendable endeavor to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of single-use plastics and to foster a sense of responsibility among students to embrace a sustainable and eco-friendly way of life. This initiative contributes to building a cleaner and greener future for the benefit of our society and the environment
