GDC, RS Pura organizes Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign

JAMMU, Oct 17: The Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation Cell (DDRC) of Government Degree College, R.S. Pura, in collaboration with the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), R.S. Pura, successfully organized a series of activities aimed at raising awareness about the perils of drug abuse. This significant initiative, under the able guidance of Dr. Rajni Bhagat, the esteemed Principal, and Prof. Balwan Singh, Convener of DDRC, aimed to combat drug addiction and its far-reaching consequences.
The event witnessed the presence of Mr. Ramnish Gupta, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), as the chief guest, and Mr. Nikhil Gogna, SDPO, R.S. Pura, as the guest of honor.
The event commenced with a warm welcome by Prof. Balwan Singh, the Convener of DDRC. It included a seminar on Drug De-addiction, featuring eight dedicated student speakers who passionately discussed various facets of drug abuse, shedding light on its dangers and consequences. The seminar was followed by an informative lecture by Madhu from SIRAS Sr. Secondary School, Bishnah, who highlighted the detrimental effects of drug abuse, including the physical, psychological, and social repercussions. Dr. Rakesh Choudhary from the college delivered a powerful presentation, emphasizing the role of family, education, and community in preventing drug abuse and promoting healthy lifestyles.
Nikhil Gogna, the guest of honor, discussed the initiatives taken by the R.S. Pura police to address the drug menace and stressed the importance of community efforts in combating drug addiction. SSP Ramnish Gupta shared case studies related to drug addicts and their rehabilitation efforts, offering valuable insights.
Dr. Rajni Bhagat, the College Principal, praised the joint efforts of DDRC and the police department in taking proactive steps to combat drug abuse and highlighted the significance of collaborative initiatives in bringing about a positive societal change.
Dr. Anuradha expressed gratitude on behalf of the organizing committee, acknowledging the contributions of participants, volunteers, and sponsors that led to the success of this impactful event.
The program also featured two thought-provoking street plays performed by NSS volunteers, NCC Girls Cadets, and a talented team led by Inquilabi Natak Manch, which effectively conveyed the adverse effects of drugs through powerful storytelling. The event concluded with a mass awareness rally flagged off by Principal Dr. Rajni Bhagat and SDPO Nikhil Gogna. Students, NCC Girls cadets, and NSS volunteers enthusiastically participated in the rally, spreading the message of anti-drug awareness to the broader community.
The collaboration between the Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation Cell (DDRC) of GDC, R.S. Pura, and SDPO, R.S. Pura, deserves commendation for their joint efforts in organizing this successful event. By raising awareness and actively engaging the community, they have taken a significant step towards addressing the issue of drug addiction and its harmful consequences.
