10/17/2023 10:32:26 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 17: Government Degree College (GDC) Vijaypur marked its active participation in the nationwide campaign 'Fit India Freedom Run 4.0' by organizing the 'Swatchta Freedom Run' (Plog Run) from its college campus. The event was organized under the combined themes of 'Swatchh Baharat, Swasth Bharat', 'Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations 2023', and 'Nasha Mukt Bharat'. NSS Unit (KHIDMAT) played a crucial role in making this initiative a reality.
The enthusiastic event witnessed the active participation of NSS volunteers and both teaching and non-teaching faculty members, who displayed great fervor and commitment to the cause. The theme 'Fit India-Free India' was a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, emphasizing the vision of a healthy and fit nation.
Dr. Vandana Gupta, the Principal of the College, and senior faculty members, Prof. Anita Jamwal (HOD Political Science) and Prof. Ritu Bhagat (HOD Education), flagged off the Freedom Run. During her address, Dr. Gupta highlighted the sacrifices of India's freedom fighters and their emphasis on the correlation between a sound mind and a sound body. She encouraged the youth to stay on the path of a healthy and active lifestyle and stated that the Freedom Run aimed to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of drug abuse, urging students to engage in fitness activities as a means to stay away from drugs.
The event's organization was credited to Prof. Ritu Bhagat, Coordinator NSS, Dr. Naseem Chowdhary, NSS PO, and Prof. Poonam Kundan, HOD Environmental Sciences. It was co-coordinated by Prof. Anil Bhagat, HOD Commerce, Dr. Radhika Rasyal, Lecturer History, and Dr. Priyanka Ganjoo, Lecturer Sociology.
Government Degree College Vijaypur takes pride in participating in the 'Fit India Freedom Run 4.0' and remains committed to promoting health and fitness while educating its students about the consequences of drug abuse. This initiative aligns with the nationwide movement towards a healthier and stronger India.
