JU hosts thrilling Inter-Collegiate Fencing (Men) Championship

JAMMU, Oct 17: The University of Jammu's Directorate of Sports and Physical Education showcased a spectacular start to the Inter-Collegiate Fencing (Men) Championship 2023-24 today at the University Fencing Hall, where some of the region's most skilled fencers battled for glory.
In a fiercely contested event, the final results are as follows:
Team Foil Event:
Gold Medal: The team from GDC Reasi, composed of Sunil Roy, Devinder Singh, Rahul Sharma, and Sourav Verma, clinched the top spot.
Silver Medal: The team from GDC Poonch, featuring Mohd. Umar, Tahir Irfan, Imran, and Mohd. Sadeeq, secured second place.
Bronze Medal: GDC Udhampur's team, consisting of Surya Dev Singh, Fayaz Ahmed, Manthan Mehra, and Surya Dev Singh, achieved third place.
Individual Foil Event:
Gold Medal: Gourav Thakur (GDC Reasi)
Silver Medal: Surya Dev Singh (GDC Udhampur)
Bronze Medal: Shokwat Rashid (GDC Udhampur)
Bronze Medal: Mohinder Kohli (GDC Reasi)
Team Epee Event:
Gold Medal: GDC Reasi's team, led by Gourav Thakur, Nizaket Hussain, Mohd. Muneer, and Neeraj Kumar, claimed the top position.
Silver Medal: GDC Udhampur's team, comprising Kavya Sharma, Fayaz Ahmed, Manthan Mehra, and Showket Rashid, secured the second spot.
Individual Sabre Event:
Gold Medal: Suryansh Sharma (Trikuta Degree College)
Silver Medal: Praney Singh (P. G Deptt. JU)
Bronze Medal: Rohit Sharma (GDC Reasi)
Bronze Medal: Devinder Singh (GDC Reasi)
The championship was officially inaugurated by Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, the Director of the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education at the University of Jammu. He introduced the participating team's players, along with esteemed individuals like Sh. Rashid Ahmed Chouwdary (International Fencer), Mukesh Sharma, and Sashi Kumar Sharma (Physical Directors).
The matches were officiated by a group of seasoned referees, including Sh. Ajay Kumar, Veer Sagram Singh, Maninder Pal Singh, Adarsd Salathia, Ranchan Saberwal, Javed Ahmed Chouwdary, and Sdr. P.D Singh.
The excitement continues tomorrow as the remaining individual events of the men's section are scheduled to take place. Stay tuned for more fencing action and remarkable performances at the Inter-Collegiate Fencing Championship 2023-24 in Jammu.
