Court awards one year imprisonment to Jr Clerk in corruption charges

JAMMU, Oct 17: Addl. Special Judge, Anti- Corruption, Jammu OP Bhagat convicted the accused namely Deepak Sharma S/O Shiv Ram R/O 157 Shastri Nagar Jammu who was caught red-handed while accepting bribe Rs 5000/- and FIR No. 07/2014 U/S 5(1), (d),5(2) of J&K PC Act Svt. 2006 r/w sec. 161 RPC (now 4-A PC Act) of Police Station VOJ (now ACB) and awarded one year imprisonment and fine Rs 15000/- .
Brief facts of the case are that on 03-04-2014 one Pankaj Ved S/O Late Chuni Lal Vaid R/O 58-A, A/D Gandhi Nagar Jammu lodged a written complaint at police. station Vigilance Organization Jammu (VOJ) against one Deepak Sharma, Jr. Clerk posted in the office of Transport Commissioner Jammu for demanding bribe of Rs 5000/- for replacement of route permit of his old vehicle no. JK02M 0049 model 2000 to new vehicle No. JK02V-7855 model 2004. Alleged therein was that "he is a transporter and is running this trade for more than four decades and, he is being harassed by the clerk Deepak Sharma who is on deputation from SRTC for the last so many years. The complainant after arranging the bribe money approached the vigilance organization Jammu with a written complaint and told that he was going to pay Rs 5000/- to the Deepak Sharma Jr. Clerk under compelling circumstances for collection of the route permit of the replaced vehicle No. JK02V-7855 and requested for necessary action. Upon this case FIR NO. 07/2014 was registered in police station VOJ and a Trap was laid and accused Deepak Sharma was arrested red handed while demanding and accepting the bribe money from complainant. Chargesheet of the case was produced before the court of Addl. Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Jammu.
Additional Sessions Judge Anticorruption Jammu OP Bhagat after hearing Adv PS Parmar for the accused whereas APP Anoop Kumar for the ACB observed that during trial of the case offences U/S 5(1) (d) r/w 5(2) of J&K PC Act 2006 and 161 RPC (4-A PC Act) were established and the accused was convicted to undergo simple imprisonment of one year and a fine of Rs 15000/- (Rupees fifteen thousand only). In default of payment of fine, the convict had been further ordered to undergo imprisonment of one month.
