Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 18: In a demonstration of their unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on those in need, the Govt. College of Engineering & Technology (GCET), Jammu, in collaboration with the J&K Thalassemia Welfare Society, organized a blood donation camp within the campus.
The Blood Donation Camp at GCET exemplified the community’s dedication to promoting the well-being of fellow citizens. The collaborative effort between the college and the J&K Thalassemia Welfare Society serves as a testament to the strength of collective initiatives in fostering health and wellness.
The camp was inaugurated by Prof. Sameru Sharma, Principal of GCET, who underscored the immense importance of blood donation. She emphasized that donating blood is a healthy process, as the human body can replenish the donated blood within 4 to 8 weeks, with blood plasma returning within 48 hours. Prof. Sharma also stressed that a single pint of donated blood can potentially save the lives of three individuals in critical conditions.
Er. Sudhir Sethi, the President of the J&K Thalassemia Welfare Society, graced the event alongside executive members Mr. Puneet Gandotra and Mr. Shammi Kapoor.
The event coordinators, Prof. Bhawna Sharma, Prof. Sheetal Gandotra, and Prof. Sanjeev Gupta, commended the young donors for their selfless acts as life savers. They encouraged the cultivation of a culture of regular blood donation, recommending donations every six months.
During the event, a total of 44 students and staff members generously donated blood, while approximately 80 individuals underwent Hb and blood group checks.
The entire process was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Mitali, Dr. Rashmi, and their technical team from GMC Jammu. The event ran smoothly, thanks to the dedication of student volunteers Jaanvi Sharma, Gazanafar Kazmi, and Prajwal Nagar, with the invaluable support of senior staff members present throughout the event.
The coordinators expressed their gratitude to the donors and encouraged more students and staff to participate in future blood donation drives. This event serves as a shining example of how collective efforts can positively impact the health and well-being of a community.
