Gandhian Centre JU organizes Handicrafts and Handloom Exhibition

Jammu, Oct 18: Gandhian Centre for Peace & Conflict Studies, University of Jammu in collaboration with the Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom, Jammu and Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu organizes Two Days’ Handicrafts & Handloom Exhibition “Celebrating Gandhi” in the Gymnasium Hall at University of Jammu from 18th to 19th October, 2023.
Various handmade products of Artisans which includes Basohli Pashmina Products, wheat straw products, Calico printed bed sheets, Kashmiri products, paper quilling, Khadi products, resin art products etc. are the main attraction at the event. More than 40 artisans/cooperatives are participating in the event.
Dr. Vikas Gupta, JKAS, Director Handicrafts & Handloom, Jammu was the chief guest for the inaugural ceremony. He in his address appreciated the artisan community for exhibiting their skill and cultural heritage of Jammu region. He urged the public to buy local handmade products for promoting the artisan community of Jammu region. He also emphasized upon the need for handholding of these trained weavers and artisans by getting themselves registered with the department for availing various benefits being provided by the Government through different schemes.
Subash Gupta, former District and Session judge and Former member JKPSC was the guest of Honour at the event. He appreciated the efforts of the Gandhian Centre in organizing the exhibition.
Earlier Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Department of Sports and Physical Education presented the formal welcome address and Dr. Seema Rohmetra, Incharge Director, Gandhian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Jammu introduced the nature of the event to the audience. Focusing on the purpose of the event, She emphasized upon the need to encourage artisans and promote the local handicrafts in the present times.
Ms. Simmi, handicrafts training officer, Mohd. Assistant Handicraft training officer, Dr. Mandeep Singh and Ravish Vaid coordinated the event.
