MIER College engages in faculty interaction program at IIT Jammu

JAMMU, Oct 18: The Centre for Essential Skills at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jammu, recently hosted an insightful one-day faculty interaction program, welcoming faculty members from the MIER College of Education (Autonomous). This event facilitated a stimulating exchange of ideas and experiences, fostering a collaborative learning environment that enriched the participating educators.
The program commenced with an introductory session led by Dr. Lakhvinder Singh, Coordinator of the Centre for Essential Skills at IIT Jammu. Dr. Singh provided an overview of the center's various initiatives and their achievements. The educators were then treated to an engaging session led by Prof. Bijoy Boruash, who explored the interconnected concepts of truth and knowledge and their profound influence on the objectives of learning. Prof. Boruash effectively supported his concepts with relatable examples drawn from daily experiences.
Prof. Anurag Misra offered insights into the significance of project work at the undergraduate level and provided valuable guidance for supervisors when developing projects. He emphasized the myriad benefits of research at the undergraduate level, such as increased job opportunities, personal satisfaction, professional growth, and the potential to positively impact students' lives.
In-depth discussions on different assessment styles and their role in measuring learning outcomes were led by Prof. Rakesh Singhal. Drawing from his practical experiences, Prof. Singhal shared multiple samples to illustrate his points.
Dr. Amitash Ojha, Head of the Centre for Essential Skills at IIT Jammu, conducted a session on creativity. This session not only involved hands-on activities but also explored neurocognitive limitations related to creativity. Dr. Ojha offered strategies to enhance creative thinking among students.
Dr. Sayantan Mandal, through his research, delved into the challenges and complexities of technology-enabled learning. Prof. Sayantan and his scholar, Shariya Sareen, explored effective strategies and models for the implementation of technology-enabled learning.
The faculty interaction program culminated in a valedictory function, which featured the distribution of certificates of participation and a group photo to commemorate the enriching exchange of knowledge and ideas. This program exemplified the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing among academic institutions, ultimately benefiting both educators and students.
