Pandey spells out arrangements, events of mela

JAMMU, FEB 5: Two-day Red Cross Mela cum Raffle Draw is being organized by the Regional Red Cross Society, Jammu, on February 7 and 8, 2009 here at Kala Kendra. The tradition of Red Cross Mela was reviewed last year after a gap of 14 years, wherein over 7000 people participated and in view of the tremendous success this year, the mela has been extended to two days.
Seeking cooperation of media fraternity in highlighting the event at a press meet here this evening, the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Sudhanshu Pandey, said that the objective of organizing the mela is not only to generate awareness about Red Cross Society and its activities among business community, NGOs, sister organizations, volunteer organizations and common masses, but also create fun and folic. This, he said will surely help to raise donations from the people of all walks of life adding that administration was entirely supportive to spread the message that Red Cross was an organization, for which everybody should come forward and contribute in cash or kind.
Divulging on the details of the two day mela, Pandey apprised that visitors of all ages would witness and enjoy varied events during the mela, as efforts have been made to offer everything at one place. About 12 schools are participating in dance competition and 45 stalls would be installed, besides tremendous participation of different organization like armed forces, government departments and private agencies, he added. He hoped that people in large numbers would attend this year’s mela.
The salient features of the Mela shall be joy rides and magic show for small children and the teenagers can enjoy dance cum song competition being sponsored by Big 92.7 FM, whileas Bhajan Sandhya and photo exhibition would be other attractions. With regard to eatables Dogra food, Rajmah Chawal, Wazwan, Kehva and Kabab shall be special attraction from 10 a.m to 10 p.m.
Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah shall inaugurate the Mela at 11.30 a m on February 7, 2009, whereas the closing ceremony and Raffle Draw shall be graced by the Governor N N Vohra, as Chief Guest on February 8, 2009 at 4.30 p m.
There shall be many prizes and surprises for the visitors of the Mela, including Red Cross volunteers from schools, Baby show and well dressed couple.
The opening cultural programme shall be presented by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages on February 7 at 11 a. m followed by Bhajan Sandhya at 5 p.m, which shall be graced by Health Minister, Sham Lal Sharma, as chief guest and MLA s Bimla Luthra, as guest of honour. Sham-e-Gazal shall also be a special attraction after Raffle Draw announcement on February 8, 2009 at 5 p. m.
Pandey said that volunteers from different districts of Jammu division would install their stalls to carry the message of Red Cross’s role to their respective districts. He said that elaborate arrangements of security, parking at the adjoining JDA land and smooth regulation of traffic with the support of Red Cross volunteers from schools have been made for the convenience of visitors.
Secretary India Red Cross Society, Jammu region, Anil K Padha, Joint Director Information, Jammu, Shyam Bijyal, Deputy Director Information, Gulzar Ahmed Shabnam, besides galaxy of media fraternity were present on the occasion.
