House Committee reviews functioning of Social Welfare Deptt

JAMMU, FEB 5: A meeting of the Departmental-Related Committee on Social Welfare, J&K Legislative Council, was convened under chairmanship of Mohammad Rashid Qureshi, to review the functioning of Social Welfare Department, here at Civil Secretariat, Jammu, today.
MLCs, Ali Mohammad Sofi and Nasarullah also participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, threadbare discussions were held on various issues like purchase of food items as part of the diet being provided at the Anganwari centres, criteria followed by the department for identification of Anganwari centres and selection of Anganwari workers and helpers. deliberations were also held on the procedure being followed for regularization of services and promotion of ACDPO’s and Supervisors of the department and updation of seniority list.
Taking a serious note on the procedurals irregularities in selections and regularization of staff by the department, the Committee directed the Council Secretariat to forward a set of questionnaire on the agenda discussed in the meeting to the Social Welfare Department. The Committee also directed the department to furnish its reply within a week for further examination by the Committee. Meanwhile, the Committee on Government Assurances, J&K Legislative Council, which also met here under the chairmanship of Murtaza Ahmed Khan, took a serious note of the fact that different ministries and departments have failed to fulfil the assurances given to the questions of vital importance on the floor of the House during the 98 /99th Session, of the Legislative Council The Committee particularly expressed its displeasure over the non–implementation of the assurances given by the Ministry of Power Development Department where under it was obligatory on its part to ensure the commissioning the 132KV transmission line by March 2008 for addressing acute power shortage in Poonch district.
