Early Times Report
DARHAL, Oct 20: The NSS unit (IMDAD) of Government Degree College Darhal continued its efforts to raise awareness about "Khadi Mahotsav" with an insightful "Screening of Documentary on Khadi," scheduled for October 20th, 2023, under the flagship banner of "Atma Nirbar Bharat."
The event, themed "Khadi for Atma Nirbar Bharat," aimed to sensitize citizens, especially students and youth, about the significance of locally produced items like Khadi and handloom. It underscored their importance to our economy, ecology, and women's empowerment while encouraging individuals to promote and adopt these products.
The dedicated NSS volunteers of the college participated in the event with immense enthusiasm and fervor. The program was organized under the able supervision and leadership of Prof. Mussaraf Hussain Shah, the Principal of the College. In his address, he enlightened the students about Khadi's role as the fabric of the freedom struggle and its association with the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. He explained how Mahatma Gandhi developed the concept of Khadi as a means to provide employment to the unemployed rural population and make them self-reliant.
Prof. Mussaraf Hussain Shah further emphasized that Khadi Mahotsav's purpose is to sensitize citizens, particularly students and youth, about the importance of local products such as Khadi and handloom in supporting our economy, preserving our ecology, empowering women, and encouraging their adoption. The event was coordinated by Dr. Sunil Kumar Mangoch, NSS Program Officer, and supported by dedicated faculty members, including Dr. Ahsan Ul Rehman Rizvi, Dr. Mohd Akhlaq, Dr. Imtiaz Hussain Shah, and Prof. Tahir Mahmood.
The event reached its culmination with a pledge ceremony, where participants committed to regularly using Khadi and village industries products to contribute to the livelihoods of the country's artisans. The dedication and patience displayed by the student participants, who attentively watched the documentary, were instrumental in making this event a resounding success. The "Screening of Documentary on Khadi" served as a valuable platform to impart knowledge about Khadi's historical significance and its contemporary relevance in promoting the ideals of Atma Nirbar Bharat.
