| Work apace on 705 water supply schemes under ARWSP in Jammu Div: Taj | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, FEB 5: The execution and up-gradation work on 705 Water Supply Schemes (WSS) at a total cost of Rs. 823 crore under Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP) are in progress in Jammu division. Out of the total outlay, Rs. 427 crore have been incurred on the execution of these schemes up to end of January this year and 178 WSS schemes are being completed up to end of current financial year which would provide potable water supply facility to 395 habitations having population of 1.61 souls of the division. This information was given out in a review meeting of PHE Department, chaired by Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, the other day. Besides, the Principal Secretary, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Departments, A. K. Angurana, the meeting was attended by Chief Engineer, PHE, Jammu, A. K. Abrol and all district SEs of the department. The Minister reviewed district-wise progress of all under execution schemes being taken up under ARWSP. While reviewing the status of 202 WSS under the programme, the Minister was apprised that execution and up-gradation work of 50 WSS schemes in Jammu district would be completed during this fiscal, which would benefit 95 habitations of the district. He was informed that so far 5 WSS have been completed which has covered 26 habitations. The meeting was told that in Samba district Rs. 51.28 crore are being utilized on the execution of 44 WSS under the programme and Rs. 20.42 crore has been incurred up to last financial year, while as 13 WSS schemes benefiting 36 habitations would be completed this fiscal. Reviewing the pace of progress of 85 under execution WSS in Kathua district, the Minister was informed that so far Rs. 48.52 crore have been expended out of total estimated outlay of Rs. 96.17 crore up to the end of January this year and the department has set a target to complete 14 WSS during this financial year, which would benefit 18 habitations of the district. Under the programme in Rajouri and Poonch districts, at present execution and up-gradation work of 113 WSS at a cost of Rs. 135 crore is under progress and during current fiscal, work on 35 WSS benefiting 77 habitations of these twin districts would be completed. The meeting was informed that execution and up-gradation work on 109 WSS at the cumulative cost of over Rs.161 crore is in progress and up to January end, 2009 Rs. 49.88 crore have been spent in Udhampur and Reasi districts. During the current financial year, work on 23 WSS would be completed which would cover 61 habitations of these districts under the programme, the meeting was told. The Minister was apprised that under ARWSP Rs. 170 crore are being incurred on 152 WSS in Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar districts. Out of which Rs. 61.94 crore has been utilized upto the end of last financial year on the execution of these schemes and Rs.29 crore are being expended this fiscal on execution of 43 WSS schemes benefiting 108 habitations. After thorough review of the ARWSP, Taj in his address issued stressed upon the executing agencies to ensure completion of all ongoing water supply schemes well in time. He directed them to adhere to the norms of the programme as prescribed by Government of India in letter and spirit. He asked the engineers to work with missionary zeal for the welfare of the people. He also called upon the executing agencies to work in double shifts so that the projects are completed on time.
